Hello everyone! I can’t tell you how excited I was to be asked by the talented ladies behind Pattern Anthology to be part of their Winter Wonderland tour! I love every single pattern in this collection and can’t wait to sew them all! The collection is perfect for holiday photos of your kids. Each pattern I decided to sew was so fun to make and also so easy to add your own style to. I love all the options each pattern has from shorts or pants with the Holly Trousers or collar or hood with the Johnny B Good or long sleeve or short sleeve or woven or knit with the Sweet Bonnie! It’s like multiple patterns in one! And since the collection is called “Winter Wonderland” I decided to use that theme and make my own winter wonderland in my garage for our holiday photos. It’s super easy to do and even your kids can help out with most of the work!
Here is a pulled back shot of my winter wonderland set up.
First I bought these $1 marshmallows from Walmart. I bought 6 bags of them thinking I would need a ton of marshmallows but I ended up using only 1 bag! I guess we have plenty of marshmallows for hot chocolate this winter! I also purchased some fishing line to string the marshmallows on. While the twins were napping I had my 5 year old string the marshmallows on the fishing line. He loved doing this because he got to snack on marshmallows at the same time! I had him clump some of them together in groups of two or three and then also some single ones just to make the marshmallows look a little more like snow falling. If you don’t want to use marshmallows I think cotton balls would work just as well! I was also thinking it could be fun to hang ornaments instead of “snow”. Just an idea
Here is an example of what the marshmallows look like on the fishing line. Since they are sticky inside they stay in place just fine without having to tie a knot or something underneath to keep them from falling down the line.
I also purchased some little foam snowflakes from the dollar store. They come in a pack of 12. If you don’t want to buy them you could always make them out of paper too! It would be a fun project for the older kids.
Once we had all our strands of snow and snowflakes I hung them to the ceiling by using painters tape. Super easy! For the backdrop I used a grey blanket from my son’s bed and attached it with a staple gun. You could use any color you want though. It might be fun to use a bright color blanket or sheet as a backdrop or you could even use wrapping paper. There are no rules for the color or pattern in my opinion. Have fun with it! For the “snow” on the ground I used two white blankets from the twins bed. I just spread them out on the ground to cover the floor of the garage. And that is it! SO easy! Here are a few shots from our photo shoot:
I happened to have a bag of fake snow that I purchased from Walmart last year and thought it would make a perfect prop for the photo shoot. The kids LOVED throwing it in the air and I think it made for some cute shots!
The Christmas lights were a huge hit too! Maybe not for Tyson but for the girls at least! They loved tying up their brother!!
And here are a few examples of what they look like as a Holiday card. These cards are FREE photoshop/elements templates from the cutest shop Dear Emmie!! She is a friend of mine and has the cutest shop for logos, blog design templates, card templates, papers, etc! I used some papers from her shop to design my blog. You can download the free card templates HERE. These are just a few of the ones she is offering this year.
And that is it friends! I hope I have given you a little inspiration for your Holiday photos this year! I just recently created a Facebook page for my Lexi Made blog so if you haven’t “liked” my page yet go LIKE it! Thanks everyone!
